The Curiosity of Chance
A deftly executed queer spin on the classic teen movie. The Curiosity of Chance
It’s always tough being the new kid at school. But it can be especially trying when you’re a top hat-wearing, openly gay teenager who dabbles in the occasional spot of drag. Well, such is the life of Chance Marquis, a self-appointed misfit who just wants to get through the school day in one piece.
In deftly putting a queer spin on all the familiar teen movie clichés (the school bully, the understanding jock, the gang of outcast friends), first-time filmmaker Russell P. Marleau has combined the perfect blend of quick wit and expertly judged sentimentality. It’s like the gay John Hughes movie we never had.
