Jerusalem Is Proud to Present

A timely reminder of the reasons why Pride matters.

In the summer of 2006 Jerusalem was to host a week-long World Pride event, culminating in a march. This tense documentary follows the organisers at Jerusalem Open House LGBT centre as they strive to make that march happen. They face opposition on a scale unimaginable in the UK, with Pride described in the city council as ‘nothing less than the attempted rape of the Holy City’.

As extremist leaders from Jewish, Christian and Arab faiths find common ground in their hatred for the parade, a campaign of personal intimidation and institutional non-co-operation begins. But despite escalating risk the organisers doggedly continue to assert their right to a presence in the city. A timely reminder of the reasons why Pride matters.
