Final Thoughts, Series 1
First in a video archive that artist Steve Reinke claims will be complete at his death.Reminiscent of The Hundred Videos (1989-1996) which catalogues his early artistic output, video artist Steve Reinke's Final Thoughts, Series 1 is the first in a video archive that he claims will be complete at his death.
Framed by Reinke's sardonic humor and crackling wit, these playfully perverse essays juxtapose fragments - video, theoretical musings, audio, animation, found footage, text - to disrupt normative visual regimes and to queerly explore the discursive limits of identity, autonomy, and desire. Part performance video, part political inquisition, Reinke's brilliant lo-fi pop sketches take on small objects and fantasies to ask radical questions about our entire culture.
Titles include Anthology of American Folk Song, Ghosts of Gay Porn, Ask the Insects, The Mendi, Regarding the Pain of Susan Sontag (Notes on Camp), Picnic, My Rectum is not a Grave (Notes to a Film Industry in Crisis), Hobbit Love is the Greatest Love, Election Defeat. KS
