In This Our Lives: The Reunion + Panel Discussion
An intimate and multi-layered documentary that reunites participants of the groundbreaking National Black Gay Men's conference held in London in 1987.
In October 1987, London hosted the first and only national gathering of black gay men in the UK, the National Black Gay Men's conference. In This Our Lives documents a reunion of original participants as they discuss the significance of this landmark conference and the progress of black gay politics in the intervening twenty years. Innovative editing gives the film an intimate, conversational feel as the men, the first 'out' black generation of men in the UK, openly reveal the struggles and triumphs of their lives. After the screening, an intergenerational panel will debate the issues raised by the film and the future of black gay activism in the UK. Moderated by filmmaker Campbell X, panelists include original conference participants Martin Patrick and Alex Olowade, rukus! founders Topher Campbell and Ajamu X, Jay Bernard, and Oh Wow Boyz, Dejay Scott and Christian Neckles.
