U People
A large group of black lesbians gather in a house in Brooklyn to make a music video.
An 'accidental' documentary about the cast and crew on location at a music video shoot in Brooklyn. All the participants are women or trans people of colour and are mainly lesbian identified. While the group wait for their scenes, get their hair done and sit on the stoop, conversations are captured on camera about what it is to be a woman of colour, what happens when you are read as a black male and what it means to face multiple oppressions. The film also clearly conveys the instant warmth that springs up between these women through their shared identities and the party atmosphere created by the video shoot emphasises the work's celebratory feel.
