Myleene Klass
Silent-film comedy genius Charlie Chaplin and former Hear'Say singer turned TV and radio presenter Myleene Klass might not seem to have much in common, but the two were recently brought together by the BFI when Myleene, a classically-trained pianist, performed an accompaniment to the silent master's 1914 short Mabel at the Wheel.
We were delighted to welcome Myleene - and the CNN television crew she brought with her - to the BFI National Archive. Her performance forms a part of an edition of The Screening Room, CNN's internationally-distributed dedicated film programme. Focusing on the Archive's preservation and restoration work, it includes a tour of the J. Paul Getty Conservation Centre where most of that work takes place, and features revealing interviews with head curator Robin Baker, silent film curator Bryony Dixon and technical projects officer Kieron Webb.
The programme explores one of the Archive's most important current projects, the ongoing restoration of the films that Chaplin made for Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios during the first year of his long film career. Thirty-five films were produced in all, and the intention is to restore each of them to as close to its original form as surviving materials allow.
The programme screens on CNN International from 28 January and on Turner Classic Movies from February - further information at www.edition.cnn.com
