Hepburn & Tracy

The chemistry between Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy lit up the screen, as you can see in February's Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy season. But their glow radiated well beyond cinemas, and a new display of materials in BFI Southbank's mezzanine shows just how far.

This fascinating and revealing exhibition brings together publicity materials, scripts, on-set photographs, vintage film magazines and annuals from the BFI's Special Collections, exploring the pair's relationship both on- and off-screen, and taking a closer look at their work with some of the greatest of Hollywood directors, among them George Cukor, Frank Capra and Elia Kazan. Above all, the exhibition makes abundantly clear why these two giants of American movies so completely captivated millions.

The exhibition runs until 28 February.

More items from the BFI's Special Collections can also be seen on display around the world this month. An original shooting script for Brief Encounter (1945) can be seen as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences exhibition, Star Quality: The World of Noël Coward, running in LA until 18 April. Meanwhile, scripts and publicity materials for Roman Polanski's British-made films, Repulsion (1965) and Cul-de-Sac (1966), are on show in Düsseldorf, as part of the Filmmuseum's 'Roman Polanski: Director and Actor' exhibition which runs from 26 February to 16 May.
