BFI Neighbourhood Cinema Equipment Fund

Find out if your community is eligible to apply for new equipment through the BFI Neighbourhood Cinema Equipment Fund.

With an increasing number of community venues showing film throughout the UK, the BFI would like to help by awarding equipment through its Equipment Fund.

We want to help improve presentation quality at community cinema screenings to bring an improved cinematic experience to audiences everywhere. From DVD and Blu-ray players to blackout blinds and comfortable seating, we will be working with our partners at Saville Audio Visual to award new equipment packages.

As we are now coming to the end of the BFI Film Forever strategy, we are running a final round of the Equipment Fund. To encourage inclusivity we are including ‘MobileConnect’ which is a live-streaming solution that provides users with audio description and hearing support on their own smartphones. More details can be found in the Equipment Price Guide in the application form.

To apply, your cinema needs to have been up and running for at least six months, regularly showing films to at least 30 people at each screening. This is so that we can be sure the equipment will be used to the greatest possible benefit. See if you're eligible.

Other funding and support opportunities

Our tips and ideas can help grow your community cinema, and there may be equipment available to borrow from cinemas near you.
