Palme d'Or winner visits BFI Southbank

26 May 2010

Following his Palme d'Or win at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Apichatpong Weerasethakul spoke to BFI members of staff about his new installation Phantoms of Nabua, showing in the BFI Gallery.

In a relaxed environment, the director of Syndromes and a Century spoke of the gallery's ability to encourage an active relationship between viewers and the moving image.

The installation is part of the larger multi-platfrom project Primitive, which also includes the award-winning film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. Amanda Nevill, Director of the BFI, said:

"Showcasing contemporary work from rising stars in world cinema to UK audiences is such an important part of what the BFI does. Ever since we distributed Weerasethakul's film Syndromes and a Century in the UK we've been looking for excuses to bring him back and introduce more people here to his work."
