Story of the victory of the Chinese people over Chiang Kai Shek, some battle scenes are the first ever to be shot in colour. Victory celebrations in Peking October 1st 1949, Mao announces the Chinese Republic. 1930's archaic methods of farming, Communist Party history, early shots of Mao. 1945 Soviet army in Manchuria fight Japanese occupiers. Civil War scenes - PLA and Chinese partisans fight Koumingtang. Some scenes are reconstructed.

Biography of Sun Yat Sen the Chinese nationalist revolutionary with stills and archive footage. Footage of colonial China in 1900's, European exploitation. Stills of Boxer Rebellion. 1911 Wu Chan uprising which overthrew the Manchu dynasty. 1914 Sun Yat Sen in Peking. Stills of his wife Soong Chin-ling. 1924 first conference of the Koumingtang. Last film shots of Sun with his Generals before his death in 1925.
