Terms for overseas bookings
Rights
The bfi only holds the rights to the UK & Eire for the majority of the distribution collection. When a film is requested outside of the UK, it is the hirer's responsibility to research rights for their own country or gain written authorisation from the world rights holder. A faxed copy of the screening authorisation is required for all overseas bookings.
Charges
For films with a running time of 40 minutes and over, the service charge is £200 Sterling per screening. For films less than 40 minutes the service charge is £75 per screening. An additional airport handling charge of £80 is required if films are held at the airport on returned to the UK. This charge covers the costs bfi incurs to clear films through airport customs for return delivery (Please note: this is not a carriage charge).
All E.U. countries have to supply a VAT (Value added tax) number, or equivalent, to be entered on all invoices, if a tax number is not supplied 17.5% VAT with be charged in addition to the above costs.
Payment
Payment is required two weeks in advance of despatch date for all overseas bookings. An invoice will be raised when authorisations have been received and charges agreed. Our bank details for the payment will be found in the bottom left hand corner of the invoice. Please ensure early payment, as clearance into our bank account can take up to six working days, and sometimes longer.
When arranging your payment please ensure that the invoice number and your account number are clearly used as a reference with all transactions, this allows our accounts department to identify your payment easily. Transactions received without an invoice/account number cannot be identified and this may cause delays in acknowledging your payment. Please fax a copy of proof of payment to the bookings unit, so films can be prepared for despatch.
Film transport
It is the hirer's responsibility to arrange all film transport including return and agents' fees. Please confirm as soon as possible the name of the courier you will be using to collect in the UK so that the despatch department can raise the necessary pro-forma paperwork.
Films should be returned to our despatch depot immediately after your final screening, please fax through to the bookings unit return flight details as soon as possible. Films returned late will be subject to a late return/lost booking fee, which will be charged at £100 per week of delay.
In cases where the bfi holds the world rights for titles, the hirer is required to fax a copy of the box-office takings, of which 35% of the net box-office against a minimum guarantee (mg) will be charged. The agreed minimum guarantee will be required as a deposit payable in advance of despatch date. Where the 35% is greater than the mg, the outstanding difference will be invoiced after submission of the box-office return.
