The work we do

As part of bfi Collections the Stills Posters & Designs unit cares for the UK's national collection of this material both for today's users and future generations. The unit's role is to acquire and preserve the collection whilst ensuring access to ever widening audiences.

Acquire

The acquisition team is responsible for collecting new material for the collection and therefore maintains appropriate links with donors and the film and television industry. They are also responsible for documenting and cataloguing new acquisitions.

Preserve

The preservation staff commission appropriate storage and conservation for the stills, posters and designs in their care. The preservation work undertaken is both preventative and active.

Facilitate access

bfi Stills is the Picture Research and Sales service attached to the bfi's Stills, Posters & Designs collection. We offer a digital service for a fee. To further information on how to buy reproduction images from the collection, contact us for more information.

bfi Stills also promotes and provides access to the collection by supplying material to other bfi sections and through interpretative media such as bfi curated exhibitions and publications.
