"The great Yasujiro Ozu opens our eyes, in the true meaning of the word, or should I rather say: he sharpens our sense for this important capacity of the movies – the sense of place."
Wim Wenders

"Ozu has always been one of my favourite filmmakers. No one else seems quite able to master his balance of quietness, tenderness and stylistically elegant restraint. I am completely unable to imagine the world of cinema without his perfect, contemplative (and often funny) observations of human nature."
Jim Jarmusch

"Ozu is my favourite director."
Nuri Bilge Ceylan
