As part of our season of her work, we welcome Rakhshan Bani-Etemad to BFI Southbank to share her experiences and answer questions from the audience.

One of the leading contemporary women film-makers in Iran, Rakhshan Bani-Etemad reveals in her work a strong social and political consciousness. She began working as a documentary director and has since alternated between documentaries and fiction films. "In the Iranian society, a society full of contradictions, my films are social documentaries." Her sharp eye for realism and astute observation has earned her a high reputation with critics and audiences alike: she has won a number of awards both within Iran and internationally. She often examines subjects normally taboo like poverty, crime and forbidden love.

There is no doubt she is a force to be reckoned with in contemporary cinema. As part of our season of her work, we welcome her to BFI Southbank to share her experiences and answer questions from the audience.
