Some 35 years after Brief Encounter, Trevor Howard and Celia Johnston star together again in this drama about an elderly English couple who remain in India after the fall of the British Raj.
Lucy Fleming (Celia Johnson’s daughter) will join Irene Shubik in introducing this film.
Some 35 years after Brief Encounter (see p26), Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson were reunited in this drama about an elderly English couple, a colonel and his wife, who stay on in India after the fall of the British Raj. Like The Jewel in the Crown, this was a dramatisation of a novel by Paul Scott (adapted by Julian Mitchell) and was filmed in India. Wonderful performances, particularly from Celia Johnson. The screening on Wed 18 June will be introduced by the producer, Irene Shubik.
