The Detective
Terrific, ultra-contemporary film-noir with Frank Sinatra.
The last really great film of his movie life, this ultra-contemporary adult tale has Sinatra in scintillating form as a world-weary cop increasingly appalled by the crimes he has to investigate.
In between Tony Rome and its sequel, Lady in Cement, Sinatra made this terrific film noir, which should certainly be regarded as the last really great film of his movie life. An ultra-contemporary adult tale, The Detective has Sinatra, in scintillating form, as Joe Leland, a world-weary yet liberal cop, who is increasingly appalled by the crimes he has to investigate and frustrated by the attentions of the do-gooders who view him with fear and suspicion.
