2010 is an important year for the BFI National Archive, one of the world's oldest, largest and greatest film collections. In the summer we celebrate our 75th anniversary with a series of special screenings and events. Later in the year we launch a groundbreaking re-assessment of the post-war British documentary. In the meantime, our three regular monthly programmes give a big-screen outing to films from the Archive that deserve rediscovery. Projecting the Archive goes beyond the usual list of classics to unearth and reappraise under-known British feature films, offering us a fresh take on British cinema. London is one of the great cinematic cities and has inspired filmmakers from the Lumière brothers onwards. Each month Capital Tales will highlight how they have interpreted and imagined the life of the city and its inhabitants. Completing the picture, The Flipside continues its mission to seek out titles from the Archive that are weird, wonderful, offbeat, outrageous and downright unlikely, from the trashy to the terrific.
