October

Sergei Eisenstein's epic dramatisation of the 1917 October Revolution in Russia.

Commissioned by the Soviet Central Committee to mark the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution, Eisenstein filmed the events, such as the storming of the Winter Palace, using the actual locations, with the leaders of the revolution acting as consultants. Like Potemkin, October combines epic historical recreation with Eisenstein's continuing development of what he called 'intellectual montage'. October is revolutionary in both its politics and its cinematic daring.
