Widely acclaimed when it premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, this first feature by British writer-director Peter Strickland charts the vengeful odyssey undertaken through the mountains of Transylvania by a woman and her son, thrown out of their home by her husband when he hears a rumour about her past. Péter's performance as the driven heroine is superb, while the imaginative camerawork and use of sound bring depth to the stark, dark storyline.
