Las Acacias

One of the most impressive directorial debuts of 2011, this engagingly modest but magnificently assured road-movie charts the odyssey from Paraguay to Buenos Aires somewhat reluctantly undertaken by a taciturn Argentinian trucker with, as his passengers, an indigenous young mother and baby son. It's not so much the slight story that counts as Giorgelli's attention to subtle, significant details, and the wonderfully natural performances he elicits from his cast.
