Preview: Genova
A widowed university lecturer moves his two daughters to an Italian port.
Michael Winterbottom updates Italian Neorealism for the handheld, post-Dogme age in a superlative study of family relationships that is both resolutely unsentimental and deeply moving. The vaguely threatening Genoese alleyways also recall Don't Look Now.
Andrew Eaton and director Michael Winterbottom will take part in a post-screening Q&A.
Prolific British film-maker Michael Winterbottom travels to Italy for a family story of grief and recovery that's scripted by Wonderland writer Laurence Coriat. Colin Firth plays a father who moves to the coastal port of Genoa from America with his two young daughters: one begins to discover her sexuality, while the other is haunted by the memory of her dead mother.
