Across the UK there will be special events and panel discussions touching on the evocative themes present in Loach's work. BFI Mediatheques also allow you to explore many of Loach's collections online.
Chapter, Cardiff
Across September, Chapter will be hosting a selection of titles from Loach’s early television work from the Wednesday Plays and Play For Today including Up The Junction, Cathy Come Home, The Price Of Coal and Poor Cow. There will also be opportunities for schools to take part in a selection of study events from the 27th to the 29th September around the newly re-issued classic Kes and Looking For Eric.
Glasgow Film Theatre
As part of the forthcoming Ken Loach retrospective, Glasgow Film Theatre will focus on Loach's close relationship with the city, presenting his Glasgow-set films (Carla's Song, My Name is Joe, Sweet Sixteen, Ae Fond Kiss) in chronological order across September.
Carla's Song, the first film in the cycle will be the subject of a Film Salon looking at Loach's ongoing relationship with the city and Ae Fond Kiss will be introduced by lead actor Atta Yaqub. Glasgow Film’s interactive Cinema City website will feature an exclusive on-set visit from Loach’s latest film The Angels' Share.
On 18 September, acclaimed casting director Kahleen Crawford, who has worked with Loach extensively, will host a special workshop for young people on discovering new acting talent, alongside a panel of actors who've worked with Loach in the past. Ken Loach will visit GFT on 29 September to take part in a Q&A with local Glasgow schools following a screening of Kes.
Queen's Film Theatre, Belfast
To coincide with the digital re-release of Kes, QFT will be celebrating the work of master director Ken Loach with a number of screenings and events. On 13 September there will be a schools screening of Kes, followed by schools and public screening of The Wind That Shakes the Barley and a masterclass in film production from Ken Loach's producer Rebecca O'Brien.
Other screenings include the political thriller Hidden Agenda on 14 September, the LA drama Bread and Roses on 15 September, and a digital restored version of Kes from 16 - 22 September.
Showroom Cinema, Sheffield
Showroom Cinema will be hosting screenings together with special introductions and Q&A's from 23 – 30 September of Kes, The Game Keeper, The Price of Coal, and Looks and Smiles. All of these films, directed by Ken Loach are based on books by the Sheffield author Barry Hines. Showroom will also screen The Wind That Shakes The Barley and present an editing masterclass on this film on September 30 with Jonathan Morris.
