Boy A
Having served time for a terrible crime he committed as a child, a young man takes on the name Jack Burridge (Andrew Garfield) and, with the help of his benevolent case worker Terry (Peter Mullan), sets about trying to leave his past behind and ingratiate himself to a society he has no adult experience of.
He is relocated to Manchester, where he gets a job, makes friends, and might even have the opportunity to fall in love with co-worker Michelle (Katie Lyons). Yet Jack knows he is living a lie. The past haunts him and, in particular, memories of the boy he stood trial with cause him anxiety. Terry makes every effort to help Jack work out his demons, while Terry's own son Zeb (James Young) makes demands of his father.
Adapted from the novel by Jonathan Trigell, Boy A deals with a story capable of provoking tabloid headlines in a sensitive, realistic way, exploring the possibility of reform and redemption with maturity and insight. Lead actor Andrew Garfield's intrepid performance marks him out as a talent to watch.
