Another terrific film abou the human condition from Sean Penn. As a writer he is articulate about people's pain and wrong turns. As Director he knows how to bring these themes to life through strong actors and well observed settings. There seems to be a huge trust from the actors and they lay themselves bare. I have never seen Vince Vaughn better. When William Hurt walks down a dusk street mentally breaking from grief it has so much power.
All the 'states' were as beautiful as they are and as major contributors were duly given credits straight after the assistant directors. A slow burn of a film that lingers with strength and sadness.
