Kidz in Da Hood
Wenders-like depiction of a friendship between a young man and a little girlKidz in Da Hood
Amina and her grandfather have been living in Sweden for three years. Their lack of a residence permit means that they can never stick around for long and are forever on the move. When they do settle, they still have to contend with being hidden away from the prying eyes of neighbours and the threat of social services that this presents. A tragic event brings about the unusual coupling of Amina and musician Johan who is too rock'n'roll to be tied down to looking after a child - or is he?
Kidz in Da Hood deals with a timely subject and is also uplifting and a lot of fun. At its best when it focuses on the unlikely father-daughter relationship between Johan and Amina, Kidz in Da Hood swept the board at this year's Guldbagge, Sweden's equivalent of the Academy Awards.
