Despite receiving neither recognition nor support from the London Film Festival, I have been mining Alfred Hitchcock`s use of London locations (as film metaphors) since 1999 having interviewed the director in 1972.
Notwithstanding the attempt by the London Film Festival to grab the spotlight with regard celebrating Hitchcock`s use of the city as a film metaphor, I have (on several occasions) been asked to play the entirety of the 1.5-hour interview with Hitchcock at the St. Martin`s reference library in Westminster.
Generally an evasive interviewee, it is surprising to what extent Hitchcock talked to me about technique and also about London`s satanic subtext as the basis for many of his films.
If you missed one of the two airings....not to worry...as I play the interview in the course of the Alfred Hitchcock film locations walk which I`ve been running since 1999.
The walk is bumped up with storyboards for some of the London films which kindly were donated by Hitchcock`s designer, Henry Bumstead.
I have been working with Chris Deakin at the Mayor`s Office for the past few years in an attempt to celebrate the Master`s tribute (some allege disfigurement) to his home city and to showcase in so doing some of the storyboards from the London films.
