Time of the Wolf

An uncommonly realistic variation on the apocalyptic movie, set somewhere in Europe.

An uncommonly realistic variation on the apocalyptic movie, this is set somewhere in Europe in the near future, and traces a family's attempts to survive in a countryside deprived (for reasons wisely left unclear) of electricity and clean water. As a woman (Isabelle Huppert) and her two kids go in search of safety and food, Haneke offers a remarkably persuasive, visually stunning and finally very moving account of a world where 'civilisation' is all too fragile.
