John Wayne and Janet Leigh star in Josef von Sternberg's only colour film.
Von Sternberg needed work, so agreed to direct Howard Hughes' 'Hell's Angels of the jet age', with John Wayne a red-hating USAF colonel and Janet Leigh a Soviet fighter pilot. Re-shoots and second thoughts delayed release for five years. Leigh was seldom lovelier than in this, the director's first and only colour film.
