Nobody knows what's left of von Sternberg in this Asian crime drama, partly re-shot by Nicholas Ray and others. A chase by knifemen across net-draped sampams bears his signature, as do some scenes with the voluptuous Jane Russell. Wrapped in clinging silver lamé, she's as tempting as a liqueur chocolate. By the time it was released, the director had abandoned Hollywood. He never returned.
