The arrival of Joanna Jones, the young and pretty new District Nurse in a small village, arouses delight in the men and disapproval in the women. By hard work and good humour she is gradually accepted. Henry Edwards, a young farmer, and Joanna fall in love but become estranged over the arrival of a young couple in a caravan. They park on Henry's land and he tries to evict them. The wife is pregnant and Joanna refuses to allow them to move. The whole village rallies to their cause, the baby is born and the vicar offers them employment and a home. Joanna and Henry are finally reconciled.
