  • The Romance of a Railway Alternative

Dramatisation of events surrounding the design, funding and construction of the Great Western Railway in the nineteenth century, followed by contemporary footage of locomotives being built and various localities of the West Country which can be reached by the Great Western. Concludes with the company's chairman, Sir Robert Horne, addressing the viewer.

The following statement regarding the story appears after the opening credits: 'The history of a nations [sic] progress is the history of her sons' achievements, their hopes and disappointments, their failures and successes. English history during the past hundred years provides no finer example of this than the story of that great railway which linked London with the West Country.'
