Synopsis

The Bowes Line was built by Stephenson in the 1820s and carried coal from various inland pits to the Jarrow coal staithes. The film was shot during August 1974, shortly before the line closed and is intended to record its unique haulage system and the tradition of attachment the workmen felt about their lines.
