An innocent man, Vincent Parry, falsely imprisoned for murdering his wife, escapes from San Quentin to try and prove his innocence. He is befriended by Irene Jansen, but is unfortunately recognised by her friends the Rapfs, since Madge Rapf was a major witness against Parry. Someone who could prove his innocence is murdered and Parry accidentally kills a blackmailer. He undergoes plastic surgery to try and disguise himself and discovers that Madge is implicated in the murder and confronts her. She confesses to killing his wife and the material witness, but she falls to her death before he can use this. He flees to South America where he is joined by Irene, to start a new life.
