Synopsis

The story of the hardships endured by a poor Indian peasant in an attempt to hold on to his two acres of land (the title of the film) and stop the zamindar (landowner) from reclaiming it. Unable to break the cycle of extreme poverty, Sambu moves to Calcutta with his son Kanaya where he becomes a rickshaw puller but he does no succeed and the film closes with the death of his wife Paro and his return home only to find a factory come up on his treasured land.
