Road to Utopia (1945)

Film details

Zany comedy. Two stage entertainer con men, Duke Johnson and Chester Hooten, find a map of a lost gold mine in Alaska. They are chased by two murderers, Sperry and McGurk, who stole the map in the first place, and by the young lady, Sally, who rightfully owns the mine (as the map belonged to her father). Sally in turn is being manipulated by crooked businessman and bar owner Ace Larson, who plans to steal the mine from her when she establishes its location. On the journey the assorted treasure-seekers have adventures involving chases, disguises, bears, dynamite, an avalanche, Father Christmas, a loyal St Bernard and a talking fish. At various points through the film, the broadcaster Robert Benchley appears in the corner of the screen to explain to the audience what is going on, but he is not always as helpful as intended.
