Synopsis

Drama. After the death of her father, Selina Peake takes a job teaching in a high school in a Dutch community at High Prarie near Chicago. Selina faces up to a life of hardship, her only comfort being her son Dirk, whom she calls So-Big. Eventually an old friend meets Selina and arranges that she be lent enough money to start farming. Selina manages to have her son educated as an architect and also intervenes when Dirk is threatened by scandal. Everything turns out well and Selina is able to face a happy retirement.
