Synopsis

PUSH BUTTON PAY: mechanised accounting in the cashier's office in Area 6, East Midlands. Shows the operations including punch cards done by women in order to pay the miners their wages. A DIM VIEW: news story of fog and smoke. States that it is the worst fog for eight years making delivery of coal difficult. Urges people to use coal economically. Shows smoke cleaning measures for industry and the home. TALENT SCOUT: Rotherham United, the mainly miners' football club. Follows Rotherham scout, Joe McGuire, to a colliery match at Frickley (Yorkshire). Rotherham United seen preparing for match against York City and scenes from the match which is lost by Rotherham, final score 6-1. A PIT IS REBORN (5) GEDLING: surface reconstruction in Nottinghamshire now two thirds complete.
