Synopsis

The film shows six artists at work, one of them being Jimmy Boyle the prisoner who spends his time in prison sculpting. Using as a starting point a series of interviews with contemporary artists recorded on videotape, examines the legacy of surrealism and its quest for a meeting point between the concrete world of the rational and the world of desire and imagination. The artists featured are: Anne Bean, John McKeon, Stuart Brinsley, Rita Donagh, Jamie Read and Jimmy Boyle.
