The film shows how fungi can alter the physical and chemical structure of organic materials in man's environment (including man himself) in ways both beneficial and harmful. The film shows hows saprophytic and parasitic fungi obtain their nutrient and dry rot, Dutch Elm disease, potato blight, grain rust and food moulds are illustrated in turn. The action of yeast and the ways in which it is used by man is studied and finally fungal disease is contrasted with the bacterial action of penicillin. Intended for 'O' level biology students and general audiences.
