The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (1979)

Film details

Synopsis

Comedy western. Hapless would-be bandits Amos and Theodore ride into town aiming to triple the money they have in the course of the day. They first decide to have their photo taken, which goes wrong when Amos's donkey enters the studio and runs wild. They then deposit their cash in the bank, but fail to realise the cashier is a bank robber in the middle of a hold-up, who duly makes off with all the money. To make matters worse, Amos and Theodore are taken for the robbers and have to go into hiding with an increasingly unhinged local marshall, Woolly Bill Hitchcock, in pursuit. Soon they have left town, hiding in the wagon of a soldier, Jeff, who is escorting a young lady, Millie, to the nearest fort, where her father is commandant. The fort proves to be troubled, as supplies or arms keep going mysteriously missing. Hitchcock pursues Amos and Theodore to the fort and after a series of accidents the fort burns down. Amos and Theodore are sent to a military prison, where they stumble upon the underground hideout of the gang responsible for stealing the army supplies. On a misunderstanding about their sharpshooting skills, they are invited to join the gang in its imminent theft of the army payroll from a train. Jeff turns out to be investigating the missing supplies and tracks down the gang as they try to rob the train. Aided by Amos and Theodore he captures the gang, and Jeff and Millie are romantically united.
