On April 5, 1844, 30,000 coal miners in Northumberland and County Durham, went on strike. The strike, called by the best-organised and most progressive trade union of its time, was long and bitter. This film creates an historical reconstruction of events during the strike and reports on it as if a current affairs programme were in existence to give it coverage at the time, following the usual "This Week" style and format.
