Synopsis

Documentary profile about the musical career of John Ogdon who shared first prize with Vladimir Ashkenazy in the first Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1962. He was subsequently struck down by mental illness and, though it took ten years to overcome, he recently returned to the concert platform and the recording studio to perform one of the most demanding works ever written for the piano, Sorabji's "Opus Clavicembalisticum". The programme also includes footage of Ogdon working on improvisations to the final scenes of John Huston's film MOBY DICK.
