- RED AMERICAN Alternative
August 1934. Vittorio Benvegnu (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) is working in a matrimonial agency run by his uncle Oscar (Eros Pagni) in a small mountain village in the north of the Veneto.
Vittorio is the typical Don Juan of the provinces, with his sexy eyes and Clark Gable moustache. Women adore him, and he has very little desire to work.
Oscar is a violent type who made his money more or less legally in Little Italy, New York. Back to his homeland he opened his matrimonial agency ruthlessly exploiting farmworkers and spinsters in search of a soulmate.
Vittorio's weakness for women has just gotten him into big trouble. His uncle has found out that he has been having an affair with his own wife.
Oscar beats him up and, threatening him with a gun, throws him out of the agency. With no job, penniless and with his plans for a wonderful holyday up in smoke Vittorio is in a dreary mood.
Destiny interferes through the person of George Maniago (Burt Young), a red-blooded, red-haired Italo-American. He has just arrived to Italy. He wants her to be Italian, young, well endowed and virgin. Vittorio agrees to help, so that he can enjoy a few days on the coast at George's expense.
The two men set off in a creamy coulored cabriolet, driving along the Italian Riviera at the height of the holyday season looking for the wife of George's dreams. Vittorio introduces George to a number of possible spouses, including a showgirl, a not so young widow, a shy countrygirl.
Two weeks later after several misunderstandings and endless difficulties George and Vittorio have become real buddies and have also found the wife of George's dreams. But when the time comes to leave for America something unexpected happens.
