The Last of His Tribe (1992)

Film details


The story of Ishi, the last surviving member of his tribe (the rest have been wiped out by the white man). In 1911, Ishi having so far survived in hiding is caught stealing into a slaughter house in California. Anthropologist Thomas Waterman is shocked to find that he is a Yahi - a tribe thought to be extinct. There follows a programme to initiate Ishi into modern western society but the process of learning works both ways.
