Africa - I Remember (1995)

Film details

Tunde Jegede, musician and composer, bridges two classical music traditions, that of the Kora of the 13th century court of Mali, and Western classical music. As well as studying the rich oral tradition of African music, he studies cello with Elma de Bruyn, a pupil of Casals. The programme includes a performance of his composition "The Cycle Reckoning", the first full scale work for Kora and Western chamber orchestra, which relates to the slave trade.
