Synopsis

The second programme of a two-part special focusing on the revolutions taking place in the modern British workplace. Reports on the impact on the workplace of the introduction of new technology, and ponders what might replace the old "certainties", such as a career structure and a job for life. Personal stories related include those of a man who lost his job but is now working from home as a computer systems designer, and another who quit his job as a research chemist to return to the Hebrides where he runs his family croft and earns his living working for a San Francisco database publisher.
