Professor Carlo Ginzburg is one of Europe's greatest living historians. Taking his most celebrated work, The Cheese and the Worms, he recounts the story of a sixteenth-century miller, Menocchio, from a small village in italy who was denounced for his heretical views and burnt at the stake. After meticulously sifting through the material, Ginzburg sheds light on a dark period of history through the picture of a peasant who challenged the repressive forces of the church.
