Programme from a six-part series offering a practical insight into the oil painting process. Shows the artist John Virtue painting a landscape on an enormous canvas laid out in a field. His aim is to express his feelings about the location through brushstrokes and marks, rather than by making a realistic picture. Examines the importance of brush work in the paintings of past masters from Titian, Constable and Van Gogh to Jackson Pollock.
