Synopsis

Biographical drama. The film documents the life and assassination of Patrice Lumumba, first elected president of Zaire, covering the period 1958-1962. The young Lumumba, then head of the National Congo Movement, was imprisoned for preaching independence. He was released in order to attend a meeting with diplomats intent on finalising the Congo's break from Belgium. When Lumumba's party won the elections, he found himself head of the Congo at the relatively young age of 36.
