Beat (2000)

Film details

Biographical drama. The story of William S. Burroughs' relationship with Joan Vollmer, a journalism student who became his wife. Their marriage was affected by Burroughs' affairs with various men, such as Lucien Carr, an acquaintance of others in the same 'beat generation' community such as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. The narrative centres on the uneasy relationship which appeared to exist between Carr, Burroughs and Vollmer. The situation came to a tragic end when Burroughs accidentally shot his wife dead during an evening's drinking session.
